Look, don't touch

Coral is a living animal and a single touch can damage decades of growth. Keep your fins up when you are over the reef, never stand on it, and let fish and turtles come to you rather than chasing them.

Choose reef-safe sunscreen

Common sunscreen ingredients such as oxybenzone harm coral. Use a mineral sunscreen or, better still, wear a long-sleeved rash vest and a hat. It also saves you a sunburnt back.

Take nothing home

Shells, coral and starfish must stay where they are. Buying shells from beach sellers fuels collection from the reef, so please decline politely.

Park fees fund protection

Marine park entry fees go to the Kenya Wildlife Service and pay for the rangers who patrol the park. We always include them in our prices.
